Compared with a flatbed, a wheel-lift truck is shorter, more maneuverable, and can hook a vehicle in a space where a full-size bed simply cannot fit or tilt. That matters constantly here: low-ceiling parking structures downtown and in Mission Valley, tandem apartment garages in Hillcrest and North Park, narrow alleys behind older Golden Hill and City Heights blocks, and beach-adjacent streets in Pacific Beach where cars are parked bumper to bumper. Heavy Hitt runs wheel-lift trucks exclusively — we don't advertise flatbed service we don't currently operate.

The hook itself is designed to avoid contact with body panels, bumpers, and rocker trim. Our drivers position the yoke against the tires rather than the suspension or frame rails, secure with straps, and check clearance before moving. For front-wheel-drive vehicles we generally lift the front axle; for rear-wheel-drive we usually lift the rear so the driven wheels are off the ground. Where a drivetrain requires it, dollies keep the remaining wheels from rotating.

Wheel-lift towing is well suited to most passenger vehicles: sedans, hatchbacks, crossovers, SUVs, minivans, and light trucks, including many hybrids and EVs when handled correctly. There are limits, and we'd rather state them than sell around them. Very low-clearance sports cars, some all-wheel-drive vehicles that shouldn't roll on any axle, vehicles with severe collision damage, and cars with missing or destroyed wheels are usually better served by flatbed transport. Short local moves are where wheel-lift shines. Getting a dead car out of a mall structure, off a residential street before street-sweeping, out of a tow-away zone, from an apartment lot to a nearby mechanic, or from a driveway to a dealership — those jobs are quicker on a wheel lift because hooking takes minutes instead of staging a bed and winching.
